The Power of Unity: What is Unity?
As we approach our United Event on the 19th of October, I thought it would be appropriate to focus on the theme of the event, which is Unity.
Many people think that Unity means "sameness", however, this is not the case - Unity is not uniformity. Unity can be defined as a group of people who are characterized by a SHARED purpose, vision or direction (like the players of a soccer team). It is not about being exactly the same but advancing towards the same common goal which is advancing God's kingdom through the sharing of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
"For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of death on the cross, and our hostility towards each other was put to death." ~ Eph 2:14-16 NLT
"This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the complete and full standard of Christ." ~ Eph 4:13 NLT
